New Zealand merino wool is the world’s most desirable natural fibre, offering an exquisite complexity of contradictions: soft but strong, fine but warm, resilient but luxurious.
Nature ingeniously created the wool to keep merino sheep, bred in the high altitudes of Central Otago, warm in the icy negatives of winter and cool in the soaring temperatures of summer.
The benefits of NZ merino
Merino’s decadent texture is thanks to its extraordinarily fine and flexible fibres, which feel like silk against the skin. It intuitively transcends seasons: merino wool regulates body temperature and heart rate, keeping you warm in cold conditions and cool in hot.
NZ merino wool is at the forefront of contemporary, sustainable, slow fashion – it is a completely natural fibre that is biodegradable and renewable.
From fleece to fashion
Merino wool’s fine fibres and elasticity naturally lend itself to fashion, enabling us to craft luxury lifestyle merino clothing that drapes beautifully.
At PERRIAM, the process begins with the supreme NZ merino sheep, bred amidst the mountains, pure air and tussock of the South Island high country. Their wool is cleaned, carded and combed, spun into a yarn and transformed into knitted or woven fabrics in various weaves and weights.
We find inspiration in the enchanting beauty of our landscape and design our collections from our studio in Wanaka, keeping our philosophy to “luxuriate in life” at heart. All of our garments are proudly NZ-made.
